Who is REALLY financing the 2022 cityhood effort for East Cobb?
Several of the same influential people who were involved in the failed cityhood effort 3 years ago, are involved in the cityhood effort in this 2022 effort (EastCobbNews.com (March 25, 2021)
⇒ Owen Brown, Founder/Owner of Retail Planning Corp – listed as a founder of East Cobb Cityhood and a legal resident of Florida – not allowed to vote in Cobb County
⇒ Mitch Rhoden, CEO of Futren Hospitality, a business that, among other activities, appears to develop and manage golf courses
⇒ David Birdwell: A real estate entrepreneur who lives in the Atlanta Country Club area
⇒ Matt Dollar – former state representative (and in real estate) for much of what would become the city (who has now moved out of the proposed city limits). Moreover, he may well have voted for the proposal illegally (click here for the story).
The cityhood committee’s website no longer lists these backers, who live outside the proposed city! But they are quick to include outsiders like Brown and State Rep. Carson in pro-cityhood videos.
And the organizers and donors are hidden behind their 501(c)(4) non-profit status (although donations are still not tax deductible for them).
